Comedic films are usually happy and fall into a lighter type
of genre. Comedy is meant to provoke laughter and to release stress that is
what I love about this genre. Comedic films were first out in the era of
Charlie Chaplin. This was in the 1890’s to 1930’s. In the 40’s to 50’s the
Three Stooges was a great success although they were not official films rather
a show they influenced comedy in the slapstick department. In the 60’s to 80’s
some films that were released were It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, Dr.
Strangelove, Young Frankenstein, and Airplane! In the 90’s to 2000’s some
movies that came out were Scary Movie, The Full Monty, Borat, and Dumb and
Dumber. The codes and conventions of comedy are: jokes, well-known actors, questionable
morals, sarcasm, stupidity, cursing, and easy watch. This is what makes a
comedic film so great. It’s easy to watch and everyone loves them because they
can laugh at everyday problems that are made fun of.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6UsZSGRw6Y
My Favourite Movie Genres

Action
Action films are well pretty self-explanatory. They are packed with action. I love this type of film because they never get boring. Some of the codes and conventions of action films are: chases, car chases, fist fights, gun shoot outs, trash talking, one liners, and killing. Early action films from the 40’s to 60’s were mostly war or cowboy films such as The Guns of Navarone, Good Bad and Ugly, and James Bond films. In the 70’s there was a movement of martial arts films such as Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon, and Chuck Norris staring in Good Guys Wear Black. In the 80’s a pop trend was starting with sequels being made to action film hits such as Raiders of the Lost Ark, Rambo First Blood, and the Die Hard series. This was the most successful time for action films but there is a cross genre of action in almost every film. In the 90’s sequels to James Bond films were made and were successful. The 2000’s are mostly blends of genres most popular ones are action and sci-fi. These movies range from super heroes to crime fighting vigilantes. Some examples of films are Expendables and the Dark Knight.

Sci-Fi
Sci-Fi meaning science fiction are films that are explorative and usually have a background of an element that is supernatural. The codes and conventions usually found in these movies would be aliens, cyborgs, wise old creatures, heroes, villains, and lasers. Although this is not always the case the genre was most popularized during this era. Sci-Fi movies that you may have heard of: Star Wars, Star Trek, Aliens, Predator, and Terminator. These are just some of the more popular Sci-Fi films. The First sci-fi that was released was Le Voyage dans la Lune. This short film was released in 1902. In 1930’s to 1950’s many other films came out such as King Kong, and Frankenstein and Journey to the Center of the Earth. Later in the 60’s Planet of the Apes was released. In the 70’s and 80’s The Star Wars films were box office hits that attracted plenty of attention the genre. In the 90’s-2000’s the Terminator films were released and added the aspect of cyborgs to the genre. There is more than just the movie in this genre. Although it may seem too far out all of these films hold a deeper meaning. The point of watching these films is for entertainment but they do dig for a deeper meaning in life and are my favourite genre of film.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rcR7SwR0V4
